Divorcing Without Going To Court (Uncontested Divorces)
Here at Jackson Steed, LLC, we have made the divorce process easy for you. You can bypass expensive and lengthy divorce litigation, and settle your case out of court. Settling your case involves both parties signing a Settlement Agreement, and a parenting plan if children are involved. We prepare and explain all of the documents to you, and you avoid going to court and having the local sheriff come to your home to serve you or your spouse. We can handle your uncontested divorce for either $499 (if no minor children are involved) or between $800 - $1200 (if minor children are involved).
Because we are able to offer these services at such a reasonable rate, court costs, filing fees, and other expenses are NOT included in the above fees. We will file your case in the appropriate Superior Court as soon as all of the above costs and fees are paid in full.
Helping You Sort Out Important Divorce Issues
How long your divorce will take depends on how long it takes to finalize all of the elements of the divorce. We can guide you through all aspects of the divorce process, including:
- Child custody: In most cases, one parent gets primary custody while both parents have equal rights to participate in important decisions. Which parent gets primary custody depends on the facts of each case.
- Child support: Georgia's child support guidelines changed in 2007, so it is important to make your decisions based on current information. Both parents' incomes are taken into account, along with other factors.
- Property division: The standard in Georgia is an equitable distribution of most types of property and debt acquired during the marriage. Judges can and do deviate from that standard when they believe they have good reasons.
- Alimony: Spousal support is granted in Georgia, but not as often as in the past, partially because there are more marriages where both spouses work outside the home. When alimony is granted, it is often temporary in nature.
Our firm primarily handles contested divorces, where some of these issues still need to be resolved. We can also draft the documents for an uncontested divorce.
Ready to Pursue a Settlement or Ready to Go to Court
Most divorces eventually get worked out between the two spouses, partially because taking a case to trial can get very expensive. We will always look for opportunities to settle your case and never drag things out to increase our fees.
But not every divorce can be resolved amicably, and it may be necessary to go to trial to get a fair result. Both of us are experienced trial attorneys who are fully prepared to represent you in court. Don't hesitate to contact us to discuss your case.
